6/30 The 100th Meridian

I don't think any of else slept much that night as the mosquito were horrendous. We all were up around 4 and started riding.  The wind was still pretty brutal but we rode strong all the way into Towner we got to stare down a rising sun.  The riding was definitely more enjoyable that getting eaten by mosquito's and staying idle.  I remember riding became humorous as we buoyed in the wall of wind.  We ate mightily at a gas station in Towner and all laughed at product for sale, a bow and arrow that is used for injecting livestock with antibiotics.  We continued on Rt 2 and were not surprised to find road construction.  Will, Aidan and I stopped for a nap under some trees as Goody and Pete went ahead to Rugby.  We finished up our nap and rode into Rugby to find Pete and Goody resting on the lawn in front of a Cenex.  The spot that we found them on exactly on the 100th Meridian, where the great plains begin, or ended in our case.  And when I say exactly I mean exactly, we found them napping on the median in between the Cenex and the road, exactly on the 100th meridian according to this map. Weird, Interesting. 100th Meridian Initiative. Rugby is also home to the somewhat dubiously claimed Geographic Center of North America. We got some ice cream and started riding again until we decided to stop in Knox, an almost ghost town.  I napped while Will, Pete and Goody explored an abandoned grain elevator.  When I woke I found out that some people in town gave us pizza and sandwiches.  We ate and stretched before riding a bit farther to the town of Leeds, where we camped in the town park pavilion and ate at the lively local bar, KJ's.
