We woke up relatively early in Stanley and got on the road after breakfast at the convenience store. We began riding the terrain of North Dakota. We cruised between 6 and 12 mph riding up very long shallow grades into 20-25mph headwinds. It took us almost 6 hours to ride the 5 miles to Minot with a break at a Cenex, a convenience store which was often the only place to eat in the state, where we ran into a solo tourist who was heading to Minnesota. We got back on the road and fought the viscous winds. It was frustrating at times but after riding 40 miles into the wind you figure it out and the last ten miles were almost comical. We feasted on chickenwings in Minot and watched a world cup game then rode to the local bike store for essentials. We then headed to the Roosevelt Park and zoo where we threw the disc and swam in the Pool. The pool had a pretty good water slide but the diving board was the most fun. As we threw the disc after swimming we witnessed some tension at the skatepark inflamed by a racists remark. We skipped the scene and found the local grocery store where we properly gorged ourselves immediately in front of the store. We rode back out onto Rt 2 to find the winds again and had no idea where to camp. We decided that the side of the road would do fine and we reasoned that we should sleep with no tents so that we could wake very early in the night in hopes that the winds would be better.
