6/26 Dinosaurs

We woke up in the pavilion, ate breakfast and go on the road towards Saco, where we had been assured that the Mosquito's were real bad.  We watched the world cup game in Glasgow, ate mightily and found a bike shop based out of a house where we got some tubes.  As we left town Goody's knee began to act up and we stopped just inside the  Fort Peck Indian Reservation and camped in a dried out stream bed.  We threw the disc in four foot high grasses, watched the sun go down, and cooked a campfire meal.

6/25 To Malta

We rode to The Coffee Hound, Shelia's coffee shop in Havre where we ate breakfast pastries and frozen sweet coffee drinks.  We said our goodbyes to Lawrence and Shelia.  As we left town we were happily pushed along by a strong tailwind.  After a good days rest we were rolling over 20mph no problem.  We had a good day of riding and rolled along with little resistance. We arrived in Malta, ate at the local grocery store and after a flat change in town we found the public park in town that had a great pavilion to camp in as a beautiful sunset filled the sky. At the part we were shocked by the arrival of a truck with a sprayer tank on the back fumigating the park for mosquitos.  Not wanting to expose ourselves more than we had to we made our way to the banks of the river and watched a stunning sunset.  We returned to camp and went to bed.  During the night we were hit by a brief storm which nearly blew away some of our belongings, but after a few minutes it subsided.

We kept the pace up on an absolutely beautiful day through a great part of the state.
Riding no hands is a lot of fun.  Warning: when the wall of air from a truck traveling quickly in the opposing lane hits you, it can shake your balance a bit if you are riding in the car lane going 25 mph as I learned in my near fall on this beautiful day.

6/24 Havre Hospitality

We used our rest day wisely and let Lawrence give us some Havre Hospitality.   We relaxed around the house and cleaned and fixed our bikes in the backyard.  Lawrence is a licensed masseuse and he graciously gave each of us a massage.   We went into town and found a bike store and got some great za at Nalivka's Orignal Pizze Kitchen. As the day ended Lawrence and Shelia drove us out to see some foxes and the sunset on the north side of town.  We watched the movie Summer in Andalusia before going to bed.

After the journey we returned into town, bought some ice cream and prepared for a long day tomorrow.   We watched Summer in Andalusia before going to sleep.

6/23 To Havre!

We woke up early and made our way down to the Taproom, where we watched the US-Algeria World Cup Game.  It was a great game with Landon Donavan scoring the game winning goal in Overtime.
The Taproom hooked us up with some cozies which Pete and I used for our water bottles which featured the slogan "The Taproom-Where the Beer is Colder than your Ex-Wife's Heart." We rode through Central Montana and got stuffed in Chester where "goody experienced a post foot long sub and pizza spaintness. I had the worst hot sauce ever but we are fed" We were headed to Havre, where we had a place to stay with Lawrence, a friend and colleague of Wills Uncle Bob.  Will let us know that Lawrence was a boisterous amiable fellow with lots of good jokes.  We were all excited to see him and as we approached Havre
"About 40 miles out of Havre we began to be stalked by a small SUV. The vehicle kept passing us slowly while taking pictures, waiting for us to pass then doing it again. It turned out to be our next host, Lawrence and his friend Sheila. The photos turned out to be great (all the photos on this post are hers) and the hospitality was amazing. We sat down to a hour-plus meal of antelope, venison, freshly baked sourdough bread, curried game soup,home-made bean dip, veggies, guacamole, and fresh baked-goods!
Lawrence's joke-telling ability and contagious laugh kept spirits high despite a tough 100+ mile day in the saddle." -Will

We rode under beautiful blue skies through central Montana.

Pete is a Russian and History major and looks great in this photo op.

This was the only time on the tour Pete decided not to wear a helmet.  Coincidence? or perfect opportunity to get his flowing locks caught on film.

Lawrence directed us to the nearest watering hole where socialized and got ready for the last miles in to Havre.  Lawrence assured us he had an amazing feast waiting for us.
We feasted at Lawrence's House. It was a heavenly meal and Lawrence assaulted us with jokes.   Goody and I ate to the point of discomfort.
